For the first time, Twin Creeks will play host to the Jack Newton Shield, an event designed to bridge the gap between Primary School Golf and High School. More than 100 students from across NSW will take on the challenging Twin Creeks layout next Monday and Tuesday, all hoping to etch their name onto the prestigious Jack Newton Shield.
Last year’s champion, Chloe Sun (Pymble Ladies College), will return to defend her title. Sun cruised to a four-shot victory in 2025, kickstarting a run of impressive results that included a win in the Girls 13 Years division at the Jack Newton International Sub Junior Classic. She will be looking to go back-to-back when she returns to the Jack Newton Shield.
The lowest marker in the girls’ field is Mingming Lee, who boasts a +0.3 handicap. The St Luke’s Grammar School representative has enjoyed a standout season on the Junior Masters circuit, claiming victories at the Wagga Wagga, Murray River and Blue Mountains Junior Masters. Lee will be aiming to add another title to her impressive resume when she tees it up on Monday.
Another player to watch is Tsawm Laphai from Redeemer Baptist College. Laphai claimed her maiden Junior Masters title at the Murray River Junior Masters last year and has continued to build on that success. She has since won her age group at the Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf and represented NSW at the Australian School Championships.
There will be a new champion crowned in the boys’ division this year, with Illawarra Junior Masters winner Beau Cain among those leading the charge. The Endeavour Sports High School student has been in excellent form since his breakthrough victory, finishing runner-up at last week’s South Coast Junior Masters and proving he is a serious contender whenever he tees it up.
Also finishing second on the South Coast was Yarrawonga’s Cooper Holman. Holman has enjoyed a standout season, recording multiple age-group victories at events including the Peter O’Malley Junior Masters and Murray River Junior Masters. He will be hoping to take the next step and secure his maiden overall victory at Twin Creeks.
Killara High School’s Joshua Park is another name firmly in the mix. Park kickstarted his year with an overall victory at the Murray River Junior Masters, a result that has seen him remain in contention throughout the season. He added an age-group title at the Peter O’Malley Junior Masters and will be looking to carry that form into the Jack Newton Shield.
Play begins Monday morning at 7.30am.
