Wee Waa Golf Club has turned a corner after purchasing a new Sammut turf mower, putting an end to a difficult stretch in which ageing, unreliable equipment had left the club unable to properly maintain its fairways during wet weather.
The purchase was funded through a NSW Golf Foundation grant alongside donations from two local organisations, the Lower Namoi Cotton Growers Association and Gleeson Bangate Pastoral.
Since the new mower arrived, playing conditions have improved markedly, membership numbers have grown and interest in the game at the club is on the rise.
Club President David Russell said the impact had been felt across the board.
“The new mower greatly improved golfers’ enjoyment and playing conditions on the course,” he said.
“It has greatly helped the volunteers and increased playability and enjoyment for everyone.”
The upgrade has also eased the burden on the club’s volunteer maintenance crew, who had previously been left unable to mow during wet weather because of the old mower’s unreliability. With that issue resolved, the club has been able to keep its course in consistent condition regardless of the season.
The support from the Lower Namoi Cotton Growers Association and Gleeson Bangate Pastoral reflects the strength of Wee Waa Golf Club’s ties to its local agricultural community, with both organisations stepping in to back the project alongside the Foundation grant.
