Grant Paves the Way for Lithgow Golf Club Safety Upgrade

Lithgow Golf Club has completed a long-awaited concrete pathway upgrade after receiving a grant from Golf NSW and the Golf Foundation, putting an end to what had become a hazardous stretch of track between the 6th green and the Ladies 7th tee.

Before the new path was put in.

The club identified the project after the operators of a neighbouring go-kart track cleared all trees, pines, gums and shrubs from their land on the southern boundary of the course. With the vegetation removed entirely, stormwater runoff began flowing unchecked across the golf course, severely eroding the existing road-based pathway over a distance of approximately 95 metres. The track deteriorated to the point where large potholes made it dangerous for golfers on foot and in carts alike.

In mid-August, the club was notified it had been successful in receiving grant funding from Golf NSW and the Golf Foundation, with combined course improvement funds of approximately $8,000 approved for the project. Local contractor Shane Green of Portland Concreting and Landscaping was engaged to carry out the work.

However, unusually heavy rainfall in the months following the announcement made it impossible to bring concrete trucks and heavy vehicles onto the course. The club was forced to wait three and a half months for conditions to dry out sufficiently before work could begin.

Once the ground was ready, Portland Concreting and Landscaping completed the pathway as promised. The finished concrete surface runs from the back of the 6th green through to the Ladies tee on the 7th hole, with only some final landscaping remaining. The result has been widely welcomed by members, who can now walk or drive the stretch without concern.

During the construction of the new path.

“The concrete pathway is fabulous. It is a delight to walk or drive on, without the fear of falling into the huge potholes that were there before,” a club spokesperson said.

Lithgow Golf Club extended its sincere appreciation to Golf NSW and the Golf Foundation for their assistance throughout the grant process.

The path nearly completed.
