Nimmitabel Golf Club is located in south Cooma, on the southern half of the Monaro Plains and 137km south of Canberra. The area is mostly vast, treeless High Country plains. Nimmitabel is one of the oldest towns in the High Country; it is one of the highest altitude towns in Australia (1070 metres above sea level). The small rural township is on the Great Dividing Range surrounded by rolling plains and distant views to the Snowy Mountains. During the winter, it snows in in the town.
From Sydney it is about 430km and takes close to four hours and fifty minutes to drive there.
The town’s claim to fame is when the Warner Brothers filmed The Sundowners, a Jon Cleary novel, there in 1959.
After a round at Nimmitabel Golf Club, why not wander around the historic village. A Heritage Walk will take you on a tour to the Geldmacher House (@1863), the Town Well, the Old Mill (@1872), the St Andrews Church and more.
