Barnwell Park Golf Club sits on the edge of Canada Bay in Sydney’s inner west.
The course, owned by Canada Bay City Council, is relatively short at 3,400mm. Par is 61 for men and 62 for women. Picturesque views across Canada and Kings Bays are a highlight on this easy walking layout.
Small greens, well protected by bunkers, are a feature at Barnwell Park. Miss your target around here, and a good score will be a struggle.
The front nine is the slightly more challenging two nines. The back nine, however, which is predominantly par threes can be tough.
When the wind picks up at Barnwell Park, which it often does, shot selection becomes critical. The closing holes in particular can bite. With the wind blowing, you’ll often be forced into hitting your tee shot out over the bay in the hope of landing on some of the putting surfaces.
Established in the mid-1960’s, Barnwell Park Golf Club owns the clubhouse adjacent to the golf course, and members get exclusive weekend competition use at the facility.
“Barnie” as the members call it, offers a fantastic blend of social and competitive events in a friendly atmosphere.
Competitions take place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a mid-week ladies comp on Wednesday and a veterans mens comp on Thursday.
Friday is also an Open Competition. Visitors are urged to check with the Pro Shop for tee times.
This venue also offers participants the ability to play multiple sports, including Disc Golf and FootGolf. Barnwell Park Multi-Sport Golf is the first of its kind in Australia.
