  • To accrue points in a NSW SOOM event, a player must have reached their 50th birthday by the first scheduled day of that event, (or 55th birthday for particular events). Eligible players will additionally conform in all respects to the Rules of Amateur Status as approved by R&A Rules Limited.

Club & Course Setup Guidelines

For an event to be recognised by Golf NSW as a SOOM Event.

  • The handicap limit should not be set at less than twelve (12) unless recognised in previous years as being an event that requires a ballot. Clubs may include higher handicap players in their event and have additional age and handicap events;
  • If an SOOM event does not attract 32 or more players on 12 or less, it may not be awarded SOOM status the following year;
  • Should a ballot be required, it should be based on balloting the highest handicap players;
  • Teeing up will prohibit the event being recognised as a SOOM event;
  • can be found on R&A website.

Entry Forms & Fee Guidelines

  • The Entry Form should be available at least 6 weeks prior to the event and emailed to emmanuel.aravanis@golfnsw.org.au to be included on the Golf NSW website.
  • The Draw should be published on your club’s website at least 5 days prior to the event and emailed to players
  • Entry fee component is recommended to be between $25 to $50 depending on the course. Additional fees may be appropriate if lunch is provided
  • Prizes are recommended to be awarded for Scratch winner, Nett winner and Over 65’s winner (further prizes can be awarded depending on how the club’s committee want to distribute prizes to the field)
  • Prizes vouchers or gift cards recommended, being mindful that players come from country and interstate.
  • If there are sufficient entries, a shotgun start should be considered as this is the preferred option and has the benefit of most of the competitors attending the presentation.

NSW SOOM Points Schedule

  • The NSW SOOM will recognise performances for both stroke and stableford scoring.
  • Points are awarded for each event based upon the finishing position of each individual in the field.
  • A player’s final NSW SOOM points total will comprise all points accrued from his best fourteen (14) performances in designated events during that calendar year. Once a player plays more than fourteendesignated events, his worst performance (e.g. lowest points total from a designated event) drops off for each additional event he plays.
  • Players finishing tied for a position in an event all receive the points for that position.
  • It is the Players responsibility to check the points table on the Golf NSW web site and advise Golf NSW if he feels there is a discrepancy.
  • The player that accrues the highest total of points for GROSS performances in designated events over the calendar year will win the NSW SOOM Trophy and shall also receive an individual medal. Runners up and third place will also receive an individual medal.
  • The player that accrues the highest total of points for nett performances in designated events over the calendar year will win the NSW SOOM Nett and shall also receive an individual medal.
  • The player that accrues the highest total of points for the over 65 performances in designated events over the calendar year will win the NSW over 65 SOOM and shall also receive an individual medal.
