Newcastle’s Ken Brewer has claimed his fifth straight NSW Senior Order of Merit (SOOM) title in what was another year affected by Covid-19 restrictions.
The ever consistent Brewer finished with four Top finishes this year at Manly, Duntryleague, Harrington Waters and Strathfield Seniors and a handful of top 5 finishes to edge out Doug Cullam from Monash Country Club by 60 points.
“It was great to finish the season after last year’s interruptions.. Thank you to Golf NSW.” Ken said.
“I won’t get to play as many events next year but i will look forward to it when i do.”
Brewer kicked off his season with a brilliant 71(-1) to claim his first victory at the Harrington Waters Seniors and then followed it up with a 1 shot victory at the Duntryleague Seniors.
Doug Cullam from Monash Country Cub picked up victories at The Coast Seniors and Castle Hill Seniors.
With another seven top 5 finishes throughout the year, Doug was able to bridge the gap between himself and Ken,but fell short by 60 points.
“Had a great year and congratulations to all the winners.”
In third place, Shoalhaven Head’s Ian Asbury had a Top finish at Catalina Seniors and then a further five top 5 finishes throughout the year.
In the Nett Division, it was a much closer finish to decide the final winner. Graeme Leake had a slender lead coming into the last event at Cromer GC, but Geoff Cranfield was able to jag enough points to claim the title by 30 points. Wollongong’s Allan Bradford finished in third place.
“I was suprised when my name was called out as the Nett winner.” said Geoff.
In the Over 65’s division, Graeme Leake from Links Shell Cove claimed his maiden title by a convincing margin over Warren Marsh.
Leake had eight Top finishes in the Over 65’s division at The Lakes, Cabramatta, Wollongong, Duntryleague, The Coast, Concord, The Links Shell Cove and Bowral.
Congratulations to all the winners and a big Thank you to Darryl Hearsch for everything that he does for Senior Golf, not only in NSW but in Australia.
