With COVID-19 transmission evident throughout the community, Golf NSW and the PGA of Australia have made the difficult decision to reschedule the NSW Regional Open series scheduled for August and September.
This decision is to protect both players and the regional communities around the host clubs from any possible COVID-19 transmission.
Both the PGA and Golf NSW believe it would be problematic to have athletes from interstate and metropolitan centres travelling across regional NSW, much of which is predominantly COVID-19 free.
General Manager of Golf at Golf NSW, Mr Graeme Phillipson, said the decision wasn’t an easy one.
“We appreciate this decision will be disappointing news to many. However, remain assured we are working closely with all the stakeholders concerned to ensure the tournaments are rescheduled (COVID permitting) as soon as possible.”
With COVID creating a state of uncertainty around future dates, an amended schedule will be determined in due course. Entries submitted into of the Regional Opens may remain valid. However, Golf NSW will be in contact with Amateur entrants to outline future developments including refunding entry fees.
Professionals who have entered via the PGA are encouraged to seek further advice from the relevant state or national PGA office.
