The golfing community in the central-west town of Orange is reeling this morning after fire destroyed the clubhouse of Wentworth Golf Club.
Emergency services were called to the course at about 1.40am with the club well alight. They spent several hours trying to contain the blaze before bringing it under control.
“It’s a very sad day for the club,” a spokesman for the club posted in a sombre message on Facebook.
“The club has been destroyed, but the Pro Shop appears to be relatively unscathed.”
The entire facility has been closed off, and police have established a crime scene.
The club was due to hold one of it’s most popular events on Sunday, the mixed fourball championship.
