It’s double delight for Mudgee’s Mark Hale and Bonville’s Adele Douglas after breaking the men’s and women’s course records on the same day during round two of the Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club.
Hale was in incredible form, reeling off an impressive seven birdies in a magnificent display on his way to a six under par 65. His only blemish a lone bogey on the par three 15th.
Douglas was also impressive, with five birdies of her own in her two-over-par effort.

Hale said accuracy from the tree was the key to his magical score, saying he didn’t miss a fairway all day.
“I hit the driver really well.
“I took it on every hole and didn’t miss a fairway.
Hale added the condition of impressive Shoalhaven layout was a factor in his record-breaking round.
“The greens are Schmick. As soon as I hit some putts, I knew it was going in.
“It’s a very forgiving game when you’re hitting it down the middle all day,” he smiled post round.
Douglas, likewise, was full of praise for the course, adding the key to her low score was simply to keep the ball in the fairway.
“I am carrying a bad injury and thought I would just bat it around, just keep it in the fairway, hit lots of greens in regulation and try and make a few putts.
“This is a course you need to plot your way around, and It worked out today,” she smiled.
Moving Day
Douglas effort also saw her vault into the lead in the women’s division, three shots in front of Killara’s Jan Crichton. Overnight leader Lucie Quilliam carded an 80 to be another shot back in third place.
Hale’s effort saw him jump from 15th into a tie for second alongside The Links Shell Cove’s Colin Mitchell.

With one round remaining, however, it will be a tough ask for the chasing pack to overhaul Port Kembla’s Chris Campbell,
The former Japanese and Australasian PGA Tour player is at six under par after carding a second three under par 68 to his opening round’s effort.
The final round will take place tomorrow, with a cut to be made later tonight.
The leading groups will begin at 12.15pm from the first hole in a shotgun start.
Hale makes his move early on day two

Mark Hale is a big mover on day two of the Srixon Mid-Amateur Championship at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club.
The Mudgee Tyro has one of the rounds of the tournament Going, and is five under par through 12 holes.
Playing alongside overnight leader Chris Campbell, Hale sailed around the front nine in 32 shots to vault into contention.
Campbell had a rough start to his day, forced to take a penalty drop on the first hole of the day, he is currently at one over par for his round.
The Link Shell Cove’s Colin Mitchell has also made up some ground and is two under for the tournament. The 43-year-old wowed some of the watching gallery with a nice chip in for birdie from the back of the 12th hole.
Stunning Day set for #NSWMidAm

It’s a stunning day for golf here at Shoalhaven Heads.
Competitors off early in round two fo the NSW Mid Amateur have been greeted by a perfect sunrise at Shoalhaven Heads Golf Club.
There are a few clouds in the sky, but rain is expected, with only an 8% chance of precipitation – it’s going to be a stunning day for golf
Chris Campbell is the man they are all chasing in the mens division after the former Japanese Tour players carded the round of there day, a three under 68 to lead by two.
Moore Park’s Lucie Quillam has a two-shot lead after matching the Shoalhaven Heads Course record in the opening round of the Women’s section of the NSW Mid-Amateur.
Quillam carded a six over par 78 to lead from a group of five golfers including former champions Sharon Thompson, Gemma Dooley, and Jan Chrichton, alongside Alison Gatland and Adele Douglas.
