Bright start for Steph in The Netherlands

Bright start for Steph in The Netherlands

St Michael’s Stephanie Kyriacou has opened with a blistering first round of 66 at the Big Green Egg Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET) overnight.

On a damp and drizzly day at the Rosendaelsche Golf Club just outside of the historic town of Arnhem, Kyriacou, the 2020 LET Rookie of the Year shone, carding an impressive eight birdies and just two bogies to lead by two shots from England’s Lily May Humphreys

Starting at the tenth, Kyriacou got off to a bright start with a birdie, but s a short time laterdropped a shot on the 12th to drop back to level, she bounced back pretty quickly, however, making birdies on four of her next six holes to turn at four under.

Another dropped shot on the 2nd (her 11th) didnt faze the young gun, with a birdie on the par-five 4th (her 13th) erasing the error prety quickly. Another birdie on the 7th ( her 16th) got Kyriacou to five under before a clutch birdie on the last saw her safely in the clubhouse at six-under, and in sole ppossesion of the lead.

Kyriacou, who won the 2020 Geoff King Motors Australian Ladies Classic Bonville while still an amateur, was pretty pleased with her day’s work.

“I think I had a little bit of luck today, but I did also hit some pretty good shots.

“I had a couple of short putts, which I holed, and I managed to sink a couple of long ones, which turned out to be six-under-par.

“I like the look of the course. I think I hit a fairly straight ball, so I guess I have a little bit of an advantage but there was also a little bit of luck today because if you miss the fairway, it can be like cactus there,” the 20-year old to the LET Tour.

The three other Aussies in the field didn’t fare as well as Kyriacou in the conditions, Western Australia’s Whitney Hillier finished at two over , while Kristalle Blum is at plus seven, and Amy Walsh plus nine.
