The Country Championship is moving to Forbes.
The 2021 NSW Country Championships has undergone a venue change and will now be held at Forbes Golf Club on November 6th & 7th.
Earmarked initially for Bathurst Golf Club, a date clash with the V8 Supercars’ Bathurst 1000 at the nearby Mount Panorama Racing Circuit meant the logistics involved in sourcing accommodation for players from across the State over the same weekend was virtually impossible.
“The date change of the Bathurst 1000 left us with no option,” Golf NSW Events Manager Olivia Wilson said.
“With a massive influx of spectators hopeful of attending the great race, accommodation anywhere nearby was getting too hard to find.”
“Forbes Golf Club has come to the party, though, and we have used it for several events, including the NSW Sand & Grass Greens Championship and as a venue for Regional Qualifying for the NSW Open.”
Already used for NSW Open Pre Qualifying on several occasions, the par-72 Forbes Golf & Sportsman’s Club is a more than adequate venue for the 75-year-old Championship.
Considered one of the best country courses in NSW, the layout features several water crossings and small but well maintained putting surfaces.
After not being held in 2020 due to COVID, a field of around 140 of regional New South Wales’ finest players are expected to descend on the town for three nights to compete in the Championship, with 18 holes played on Saturday and Sunday.
The Country Championship boasts an honour roll which includes some of Australian Golf’s finest talent. The list of past winners includes Lucas Parsons, Nathan Green, 15-time Japanese Tour winner Brendan Jones, and current ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia stars Dimi Papadatos, Josh Armstrong & Dylan Perry,. The latter lifted the title twice in four years before turning professional.
Entries for the Championship are now Open.
