Leaderboards logjammed at Yarrawonga

Ashleigh Arnold

It is a four-way tie in the men’s, while in the women’s division, three players are within a shot of the lead after the opening round of the Srixon Mid-Amateur Championships at Yarrawonga Golf Resort.

In the men’s, defending champion Chris Campbell, from Port Kembla shapes as the player to beat after carding a two-under 70 in conditions best described as wintery.

Campbell, however, has company at the top of the leaderboard with Griffith’s Matt Staines, Glenmore’s Andrew Robb, and The Australian Golf Club’s James Brownlow, all carding matching two-under rounds.

Killara’s Jay Wooster is at one-under-par, to be in 5th place, while a trio of golfers sit at even: Jamie Pitt, Stuart Nelson and Luke Arthur.

Mid-Amateur debutant Ashleigh Arnold leads the women by a shot from Defending champion Lucie Quilliam and 2019 winner Adele Douglas.

Despite five straight bogeys to begin her round, Arnold, from Bonnie Doon, held her nerve on the homeward nine, a tidy eight over par 80.
