Victorian Amelia Harris and Queensland’s Harrison Gomez have etched their names into the history books as winners of the 2025 Jack Newton International Classic at Cypress Lakes Golf Club.
Harris delivered a commanding wire-to-wire victory, closing out the week at 11-under par with rounds of 66, 70, 72, and 73.
The 17-year-old’s dominance saw her finish ten shots clear of fellow Victorian Feiyu Xing (+1), securing one of junior golf’s most coveted titles.
“I’m feeling really excited, lots of emotions, but overall, really happy,” Harris said after sealing the win.
“After the first round, I felt really confident, like I had an advantage over the field. Shooting seven under was definitely a highlight, but more than that, it was about playing with friends and having a good time.”
Calm and composed despite holding a big lead, Harris admitted she tried not to get ahead of herself on the final day.
“I just wanted to keep doing what I’d been doing all week,” she said.
“It’s really special to win this one. It’s always been a tournament I wanted to win, and finishing my last year here with a win makes it even better.”
While Harris dominated the girls’ division, the boys’ championship saw a late charge from Gomez, who surged past long-time leader Spencer Harrison (WA) to claim the title.
Starting the final round one shot behind, Gomez fired a superb six-under 66 — backing up his identical round from Thursday — to finish at 14-under par.
He closed out a five-shot victory ahead of Harrison, who finished nine under par.
“The last two days were just something special,” Gomez said.
“I putted really well, and that’s what I relied on. I wasn’t even striking it great, but I trusted my routine and the process, and everything just fell my way.”
The 17-year-old, contesting his first and final Jack Newton International Classic, said the victory was a career highlight.
“This is my first big junior win, so it means a lot,” Gomez said.
“I didn’t think I’d pull it off with such a strong field, but I never stopped believing. Going one-for-one in this tournament, it’s a pretty good feeling.”
Luo and Sun Shine in Sub Junior Classic

In the Sub Junior Classic, Concord Golf Club’s Alicia Luo delivered a masterclass in consistency, capturing the girls’ title with a wire-to-wire victory at three-under par. Luo held firm in windy conditions across all four rounds, finishing five shots clear of the field.
“The win feels really good,” Luo said.
“My irons and putting were great all week, and everything just seemed to click. Even when the wind picked up, I trusted my shots and stayed patient.”
She admitted that the nerves did creep in during the final round.
“Nerves started kicking in halfway through the back nine,” she explained.
“But I told myself to stay calm, lock in, and trust my putting. Making a few good pars to finish really gave me confidence.”
For Luo, the victory was particularly meaningful.
“I’ve played this tournament so many times, so winning it feels really special,” she said.
“It’s one I’ve always wanted to add to my name.”
In the boys’ division, Haohua Sun produced a stunning finish to claim the title, closing with a three-under round that included an eagle at the par-five 14th. His one-under total was just enough to edge out Royal Adelaide’s Billy White.
“I feel very happy and excited right now,” Sun said.
“My driver and putting were the keys today, they gave me a lot of birdie chances, and the eagle on 14 was definitely the highlight.”
Sun admitted it wasn’t always smooth sailing during the week.
“It was tough for the four days,” he said.
“There were moments where I had to dig deep, but I think I managed it really well. To finish the way I did, it feels amazing.”
The win also carried a strong sense of pride.
“This tournament is one of the biggest I’ve played, so to come out on top is really special for me,” Sun added.
“It gives me a lot of confidence going forward.”
