Around 110 junior golfers from across New South Wales and the A.C.T will make the trip up the mountains this weekend to compete in the Ford Blue Mountains Junior Masters at Blackheath Golf Club.
The Girls division features lots of strong contenders, including young gun duo Mingming Lee & Tsawm Laphai.
Concord Golf Club’s Laphai is in fine form, coming off her maiden win at the Murray River Junior Masters last month. Just graduating from the Under 12 Tour, Laphai has already proven she is one to beat.
Lee, a member at Monash Country Club, is looking to win back to back Junior Masters titles after clinching her first ever win at the Wagga Wagga Junior Masters last month. The 11-year-old shot a final round one under par to claim victory.
Both Lee & Laphai were part of the winning NSW team at the Australian Primary School Championships in November last year.
Another one to watch will be Ryde Parramatta’s Jia You, who placed 3rd at this event last year. You has had some strong results recently, finishing in a tie for 6th at the Harvey Norman Sydney Week of Golf and qualifying for the Bonville Champions Trophy in late last year.
In the mix for the Boys division is Blake Jones, who was just yesterday named to represent the A.C.T in the Junior State Team. Jones won the 2024 Wagga Wagga Junior Masters and also had a strong showing at the Bonvile Champions Trophy in December.
Levi Park has a strong chance to go back to back in the Junior Masters Series, after winning the 2025 Wagga Wagga Junior Masters with a two round score of five under par with a birdie on the 1st playoff hole to seal the deal.
Central Coast’s Shaylan Bennett is also in form after making the cut at this years NSW Amateur with a two round score of four under par. Bennett won the Shelley Beach Junior Masters in 2024 and will look to get a second Junior Masters Title under his belt.
Defending Girls Champion Michelle Bang has exited the junior ranks, and Boys Champion Darcy Mackay won’t be back to defend his crown, so the chase for the Championship is wide open.
Play will begin this Saturday at 10.15am at Blackheath Golf Club.
