The final Junior Masters of the year has arrived, and with it, the last chance for players to qualify for the prestigious Bonville Champions Trophy. A full field of 150 juniors will descend on the beautiful country layout of Goulburn Golf Club for the Brett Ogle Junior Masters, one of the largest Junior Masters events on the JNJG calendar.
In what will be his final JNJG event, Bill Eppelstun from Catlina Club heads into the weekend as one of the favourites to lift the trophy. A model of consistency over the past year, Eppelstun has been a regular fixture atop leaderboards across the state and will be eager to finish his junior career on a high.
After more than a year on the sidelines with a wrist injury, The Australian Golf Club’s Harry Gourlay makes his long-awaited return to Junior Masters competition. The former NSW Junior State Team representative is looking to rediscover his dominant form and make an immediate impact.
Momentum is on the side of Pennant Hills member, Riley Lam, who comes into the event fresh off multiple victories, including the South Coast Junior Masters and the 15 Years Division at the NSW Junior Championships. Will Lam be able to continue his winning ways?
Several other Junior Masters winners are also in the mix this week, including Ian Kim (St Michaels), the Illawarra Junior Masters winner and former NSW Junior State Team representative, Noah Graham (Camden), winner of the Macarthur Junior Masters, and Levi Park (Kooindah Waters), who claimed titles at both the Wagga Wagga and Greg Chalmers Junior Masters earlier this season.
On the girls’ side, Ryde Parramatta’s Jia You arrives at Goulburn as the low marker in the field. A consistent performer all season, You has claimed numerous age division titles across the Junior Masters series, but an overall victory has so far eluded her. Could this be the weekend she breaks through and secures her spot at Bonville?
Stonecutters Ridge representative Savannah Webb enters in fine form after finishing runner-up in the 16 & 17 Years Fore Golf Junior Matchplay and posting impressive rounds at the Jack Newton International, finishing in a tie for 14th position highlighted by ending her week with two-under-par in her final 36 holes. A proven winner, Webb already has victories at the 2024 Regional Academy Games and 2024 Jack Newton Shield under her belt.
Two-time Junior Masters winner Mingming Lee of Monash Country Club, claiming titles at both the Blue Mountains and Wagga Wagga Junior Masters, will also be one to watch. Will the young gun be able to add one more Junior Masters title to her already impressive trophy cabinet in 2025?
Other notable names in the girls’ field include Chloe Sun (Pymble), this year’s Jack Newton Shield champion and reigning Sub-Junior International 13 Years Champion, and Sophia Chau (The Lakes), the 12 & 13 Years Champion at the ACT Junior Championship and member of the ACT Junior State Team.
Play begins on Saturday at 7:00am.
