The Australian Golf Club claimed the 2025 Eric Apperly Shield in style, overcoming Concord Golf Club in a hard-fought final at Bonnie Doon Golf Club yesterday.

The Eric Apperly Shield, one of New South Wales’ leading junior and youth team competitions, once again showcased the depth of emerging talent in the state. The final brought together two of Sydney’s most competitive clubs, each fielding players with significant national and international experience.

The Australian gained the early advantage through Ella Scaysbrook, who has been in standout form. Fresh from winning the Queensland Amateur Stroke Play and reaching the semi-finals of the US Women’s Amateur, Scaysbrook dominated her match to record a 6&5 victory and secure the first point of the day.

That lead was extended when Toby Farrar overcame Concord’s Sahara Hillman-Varma. Hillman-Varma mounted a strong comeback on the back nine, but Farrar maintained composure under pressure and secured a 3&2 result.

In another hard-fought match, The Australian’s Camilla Kim prevailed over Concord’s Jordyn Deen. The pair traded holes throughout the round, but Kim held her advantage late and sealed the 2&1 victory to leave The Australian one step away from the title.

Attention then turned to the final match between Concord’s Coby Carruthers and The Australian’s Darcy Mackay. Carruthers, returning from a season competing in high-level events overseas, had the chance to extend the contest with a birdie putt on the 17th. The attempt narrowly missed, leaving Mackay to make a par putt that secured the half point The Australian required to clinch the championship.

The result handed The Australian a 4.5–1.5 victory and the Metropolitian Eric Apperly Shield for 2025. The club will now progress to the NSW State Final later this year.
