Tathra Beach Country Club on the NSW south coast has recently completed a significant upgrade to its course seating, thanks to generous support from the NSW Golf Foundation. This timely enhancement comes as the club prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year.

The previous seating around the course had deteriorated significantly over the years. Most benches suffered from rusting supports and severely weathered wooden seats. Several were completely broken, making this upgrade not just aesthetic but essential for player comfort and safety.

The installation was completed through a series of progressive working bees, despite some weather-related delays. The project began with a dedicated team of two volunteers handling assembly, followed by installation teams of four working at various locations throughout the course. The club’s greenkeeper played a vital role in determining optimal placement and orientation for each new seat.

Unlike the old seating that was typically positioned parallel to the tee boxes, the new benches have been thoughtfully oriented to provide views down the fairways. This strategic placement at key tees around the course enhances both the practical functionality and the overall golfing experience.

The response from club members and visiting golfers has been overwhelmingly positive. Players have expressed appreciation for both the improved appearance of the course and the enhanced comfort the new seating provides.

“There have been overwhelming positive comments from golfers who really appreciate both how the new seating improves the general look of the course, as well as the improved amenity – seats that are good to sit on!” Wendy Rhodes, the club Vice President said.

The completion of this project is especially significant as Tathra Beach Country Club will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year. The new seating represents not just an improvement to current facilities but a fitting investment in the club’s future.
