Sunday was the culmination of another exciting Master Pennant season, with finals held across three venues producing several memorable victories.

The Metropolitan, Southern, and Northern finals were contested at Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club, Russell Vale Golf Club, and Kooindah Waters Golf Club, respectively, with several contests delivering nail-biting finishes.

Division FOUR: Bonnie Doon Claims Victory

FINAL RESULT: Bonnie Doon def Warringah 5-3

Living up to their top-seed billing, Bonnie Doon secured the Division four Pennant with a convincing victory over Warringah.

Despite Stephen Miller giving Warringah early hope with a 4/3 win, Bonnie Doon’s strength in depth proved decisive.

Key victories from Michael Brown (5/3) and Gavin Buchanan (4/3) swung momentum, before Deirdre Grace delivered the crucial blow with a clutch win on the 18th hole to seal the title.

“The club is going to be so happy when they receive the news,” beamed team manager Anthony Trueman-Farrell, a testament to the strong club spirit that propelled The ‘Doon to victory.

Division 3: Richmond Survives Thriller

FINAL RESULT: Richmond defeated Strathfield 5-3

In the most dramatic final of the day, Richmond prevailed in a contest where every single match went beyond the 16th hole.

Early points from Jason Hall (1up) and Rommel Pelaez (2up) gave Richmond the platform, but Strathfield’s Paul Meyer kept his team alive with a solid 3/2 victory.

The tension reached fever pitch when Richmond’s Glen Thomas held his nerve to get up and down on the 18th hole to secure a 1-up victory, and clinch the pennant.

“That was a great contest and I’m glad we came away with the win,” said team captain Matt Horton.

Division 2: Bankstown Eyes Promotion

FINAL RESULT: Bankstown defeated Woolooware 5-3

Bankstown’s victory was built on early momentum from Euan Fraser (4/3) and John Carter (3/2), though Woolooware responded through Grant Davidson (2/1) and Wayne Sampson (4/3). Glen Ballantine’s 4/3 win and Tim Sayers’ impressive 5/4 victory effectively sealed the contest.

“Today’s win was a bonus. The real prize is moving to Division 1 next year,” smiled team manager Paul Sullivan.

Division 1: Monash Gain Revenge

FINAL RESULT: Monash CC defeated Cabramatta 4.5-3.5

In the premier division, Monash avenged last year’s final defeat with a narrow victory over Cabramatta. Anthony Tse’s commanding 7/5 win set the tone, but Cabramatta fought back through Miklos Nagy (7/6) and Andrew Marsh (4/3).

Crucial victories from Garry Dickerson (3/2) and Brett Jardine (3/1) ultimately swung the tie in Monash’s favour, with officials confirming the result before all matches were completed.

“We knew we were in for a fight today. We are excited to have another crack at the State Final,” said team manager Don Parsonage.

REGIONAL FINALS

Southern Division: Wollongong Maintains Dominance

FINAL RESULT: Wollongong defeated The Links Shell Cove 4.5-3.5

Wollongong continued their regional supremacy with another tight victory.

Despite early pressure from The Links Shell Cove through Peter Walker (3/2) and Paul Zuiderwyck (3/1), Wollongong’s experience showed with Glen Gibson and Garry Murphy both securing convincing 5/3 wins.

The drama continued to the final match, where Colin Bloomfield needed only a tie on the 18th hole to secure victory for Wollongong.

Northern Division: Shelly Beach Edges Classic

FINAL RESULT: Shelly Beach defeated Newcastle 4.5-3.5

The northern showdown at Kooindah Waters lived up to its billing as the top two seeds battled to the wire. Shelly Beach took early control through Justin Bros (4/3) and Mark Pavy (2/1), but Newcastle’s Greg Frazer and Craig Park responded with 1up wins.

Jamie Stephen’s impressive 4/3 win and James Swanson’s crucial 1up victory over Newcastle’s previously undefeated Jason McBeath put Shelly Beach in the driving seat. Andrew Arkins held his nerve to secure a tie in the final match, clinching the pennant for Shelly Beach.
