A Junior Pro-Am held in the lead-up to the PNG Open at Royal Port Moresby Golf Club late last month, has provided local juniors with a fantastic opportunity to play and learn from several PGA Tour of Australasia tour professionals.

In addition to the Junior Pro-Am, a Women’s ‘Get Into Golf’ clinic also took place.

Golf NSW Board Member Peter Mitchell was front and centre at both activities. He happily assisted with his unsurpassed knowledge of the game and its intricacies while handing out Golf NSW merchandise as prizes.

“It was great to be able to help out.”

“The kids were so keen, and some showed talent.  Hopefully, this will see more young people take up the game over there,” Mr Mitchell gushed.

After the playing session and clinic, tournament organisers held a Q&A about life as a professional golfer.

Meanwhile, Queenslander William Bruyeres claimed his first Challenger PGA Tour of Australia title when he won the PNG Open.

Queenslander Bruyeres finished at 17-under, winning by two strokes.

Bruyeres’ grandfather is buried in PNG and has spent much time there.

This connection to PNG made this win particularly special for him.

NSW’ contended, with James Conran only two strokes behind in 2nd place at -15, while Josh Armstrong tied for 7th at -12.
