Two-Ball Ambrose a Hit With Junior Golfers

Twenty enthusiastic junior golfers and their families got together for a memorable day of golf at the inaugural Juniors On The Move (JOM) Two-Ball Ambrose event last week.

The event at the newly reopened Wagga Par 3 & Driving Range was designed to provide a unique and engaging experience for young golfers.

The 18-hole pitch and putt course was chosen as a perfect setting for this modified format, allowing players to enjoy a full round without it becoming overly time-consuming. The format also offered an excellent opportunity for honing chipping and putting skills.

The day’s activities featured a two-ball ambrose competition, where 10 teams of two competed across the 18-hole course. The feedback from players and their families was enthusiastic.

Nine-year-old Thomas Corrigan, and eight-year-old Callum Creek, winners on the day, loved the format.

“Playing on a different course was fun, and I liked that it required more chip shots rather than just driving,” said Corrigan.

Eleven-year-old Jordan Paton had a fantastic experience, stating, “I really enjoyed playing the par 3 course and spending time with my friends. The long drive contest was a highlight.”

Natalie Umback, a parent of one of the participants, said she would definitely be back next year.

“It was great to see the kids working together and strategizing their shots. The 18 holes were just the right length, and despite some fatigue towards the end, it was definitely worthwhile,” she added.

The event featured additional activities, including a Long Drive contest on the driving range.

Holly Umback won the girls’ category with a drive of 150.0 meters, while her brother Patrick claimed the boys’ category with an impressive 152.9 meters.

Organized by JNJG and supported by Golf NSW, the event was well-received by all. The Wagga Par 3 & Driving Range provided a free BBQ for participants and their families, adding to the atmosphere.

The event’s success has already sparked plans for an even bigger and better version next year, with the April school holidays a possibility.
