Moore Park Secures Mixed Pennant at Shelly Beach

Moore Park proved too strong, defeating Camden & clinching the 2024 Mixed Pennant with a decisive 4-1 victory at Shelly Beach Golf Club.

This victory marks only the second Mixed Pennant title for Moore Park since the competition’s inception in 1984.

Both teams had impressive runs this season, highlighted by Camden’s upset over the 2023 champions, The Coast, in last week’s semi-final, propelling them into their first-ever Mixed Pennant final.

The final commenced with Moore Park’s pairs, Art and Kaoru, winning 7/6, and Lee and Natalie securing a 5/3 victory, setting a strong early lead. However, Camden rallied late in the contest, with Kent and Lisa making a remarkable comeback from 4 down to earn a half-point in the closing hole, thanks to Kent’s excellent approach and birdie.

The victory was sealed for Moore Park when Anthony and Gerelma won their match 2/1, ensuring the club took home the Mixed Pennant flag.

“We are so glad and excited to have won… Let the party begin!”

An interesting side story of the final was the colourful socks sported by all Moore Park players.

“I always wear movie-themed socks. People at the club told me I should wear normal white socks. So, I convinced the whole team to wear them this year,” explained Lee.

“Maybe this was the secret to our team’s success.”
