A withering six-hole burst of pars to finish their round has propelled Ross Rees and Jack Brand to victory in the NSW Senior Foursomes Medal at Tamworth Golf Club.

Brand (Shoalhaven Heads) and Rees ( Royal Canberra) finished the regulation 18 holes at one-over par 71 alongside Alan Wilder and Geoff Walker and the central coast pair Craig Wickham and James Swanson, but the pair had done enough to easily claim the win on a countback.

For Brand, it was a welcome first win in his first senior amateur event and one he was elated with.

“It’s my first foray into senior events, and this is just fantastic.

‘Knowing the feeling of winning a state championship like this is actually mind-blowing. I never thought it would happen, and I feel incredibly lucky to know that I did it with Mr Rees here.”

The victory was especially sweet for Rees, who has lived to tell a few tall tales in his 67 years.

“Like Jack said, it’s an unbelievable feeling knowing you’ve picked up something as special as this.

“It was a lot of fun out there. Jack’s a wonderful putter; if he ever gets rid of his, I’ll gladly pay for it!

“Wins like this don’t come around that often at my age, so you’ve got to celebrate.

“I think I’ll be having a few beers tonight with anyone who wants to join in, I’ll talk to anyone about it.” Rees Grinned.
