Concords Coby Carruthers is in the lead after the first two rounds of the NSW Cup held at New South Wales Golf Club (NSW GC).
Carruthers started strong with a one-under-par (71) round yesterday, today improving on his performance, carding a two-under-par round of 70.
“I just tried to keep it in play off the tee. It didn’t really matter how far I hit it down the fairway, just down the fairway is better than being in the bush,” said the Concord member.
“I just try to hit it in the right spots and minimise the damage if I was in a tough spot.”
Playing alongside NSW GC members Zac Mullins and Andrew Weston today provided Carruthers with valuable insights.
“Playing with Zac was pretty important, just seeing what he did around the golf course. I learnt from him and followed him.”
“I hit it in for eagle on the 12th hole, so that was pretty good. There was a lot of solid stuff today, I hit a few close ones too, within a foot or so.”
Taking a two-shot lead into the final round, Carruthers strategy is to keep his game consistent.
“I’ll be doing the same thing as the last two rounds. Just hit it into the fairway, on the green, two putts and keep it underneath the wind,” he added.
“I love wind. I hit the ball really low, so I think it’s great for me. The course is great too, I love this event.”
Sitting in second after Carruthers is NSW GC member Kayun Mudadana with a score of under par, after an impressive three under par round today.
Carruthers playing partner Zac Mullins is on level par in third.
The final round of the NSW Cup will begin tomorrow morning.
