O’Donovan, Squires Shine on Day One at 2024 #AusAm

Declan O’Donovan, a member of the victorious 2023 NSW Interstate Team, is currently leading the Blues charge at the 2024 Adidas Australian Amateur in Victoria.

The 20-year-old from Avondale Golf Club posted an impressive two-under-par 70 at Keysborough Golf Club yesterday to sit in a tie for 6th.

Brodie Herring from New South Wales Golf Club sits comfortably in a tie for 10th after completing his round at Keysborough with a handy one under 71. The 17-year-old young gun has had a successful junior career, clinching the Jack Newton Fayde Matchplay and the Greg Chalmers Junior Masters titles in 2022.

Jye Halls, the 2022 NSW Country Champion, finds himself in T19 after a solid even-par first round.

In the Women’s competition, Amy Squires, the 2023 Fayde Junior Matchplay and National All Schools Golf individual strokeplay Champion is tied for 6th following her opening round of one under par 72 at Yarra Yarra.

Ella Scaysbrook, the 2023 NSW Junior Champion, had a roller-coaster round of eight pars, five birdies and five bogeys to finish at even par and in a tie for 12th.

Scaysbrook’s teammate at the Australian Golf Club, Annika Rathbone, the sole undefeated NSW player at the 2023 Interstate, is still in touch with the leader in a tie for 14th after finishing one over par at Yarra Yarra Golf Club yesterday.

18-year-old Queenslander Kai Komulainen holds the lead in the men’s amateur after a stunning 6-under par 64 at Yarra Yarra Golf Club in tricky, hot conditions and a fierce northerly. Komulainen is a shot ahead of New Zealander Mitchell Kale (5-under 67 at Keysborough with a bogey-free round) and another shot ahead of American Noah Kent (68 at Keysborough).

Japan’s Aina Fujimoto shot 4-under 69 at Keysborough Golf Club to lead the women’s amateur with Victorian teenagers Jazy Roberts and Amelia Harris nearby after three-under-par opening rounds.
