Milestones Made in Warren & Gibson Finals

Twin Creeks and Gordon have recorded significant milestone moments in their respective club’s histories by picking up their first-ever pennant flags in the storied TL Warren and W Gibson inter-club championships.

After defeating Fox HIlls in last week’s semi-final at Northbridge, top seeds Gordon made no mistake in the final at Beverly Park, accounting for Lakeside 2 1/2 to 1/2.

Winners for Gordon were Vince Signorelli & Mike Singleton 3/2 over Thiru Thiruloganatnan and Alec Coe, while Shane Henry and Scott McMichael defeated Frank Messina and Christian Borg 2/1. with the required two matches won, the remaining match between Myles Carey & Kevin White against Lakesides Patrick King and Gregory Boness was called a tie.

The W Gibson final was another thriller, with Twin Creeks grabbing its first team matchplay pennant with a 2 1/2 to 1/2 win over Stonecutters Ridge.

Michael Bullock and David Oliver (2up) got the ball rolling for Twin Creeks with a handy two-up win over Paul Shillock and Glen Tahinic. Paul Fittler and Trevor Spinks sealed the title for the Luddenham outfit with a 1-up win over the gallant pair of Glenn Day and Eugene Hong. 

With the tie decided, the final match on the course between Garry Gunstone and David Leet from Twin Creeks and Danny Hagerty and Sugan Naidoo of Stonecutters was called a half.

The TL Warren dates back to 1949, and the W Gibson, first held in 1957, are two of metropolitan Sydney’s most popular inter-club events. A combined 80 teams took part in the competition this year.
