Newcastle Golf Club have claimed their first State Master Pennant Final with a solid win over the Metropolitan Division One Champion, Monash 5 1/2 matches to 2 1/2.
The Novocastrians earned their spot in the State Final at Stonecutters Ridge courtesy of a storng win over the southern divsion winners, Port Kembla, in a 6 1/2 to 1 1/2 victory at Dunheved Golf Club the previous weekend.
Despite having five-time Senior Order of Merit winner Ken Brewer unavailable due to his participation int the Britsh Senior Amateur, the northerners wer unphased, and took a dominant lead early.
