LOVE MATCH: Danny and Darcy Set for Tour Life Together

Danni Vasquez and Darcy Boyd have two loves: each other and golf.

The duo are almost inseparable, together on and off the course and often caddying for each other during tournaments.

“When I’m playing, he tells me what to do, and I just hit it. But the other way around, he needs me for emotional support.

“I can tell he’s getting frustrated. I know how to calm him down, and when he needs a hug and things like that, so we work really well in that sense,” said Vasquez.

The pair have been together since they were teenagers, competing with one another at Jack Newton Junior Golf tournaments. Darcy completed his PGA Membership Pathway Program late last year, while Danni expects to complete her PGA studies soon. The couple are set to tie the knot in December.

If 2023 hasn’t been busy enough planning for their wedding, they’re now both professional tour players.

“I was just like, oh my gosh, we’re both on tour. What the hell? So yeah, it was cool.”

“It was pretty awesome. The only other couple I can think of off the top of my head is Hannah Green and Jarryd Felton, and they’re pretty good golfers. If we can follow in their footsteps, we’ll be going all right,” Boyd added.

Danni is still on a high after her best-ever finish: a sudden death playoff at the Australian Ladies Classic earlier this month. The result was enough to see her shoot up to 7th place on the 2023 WPGA Order of Merit.

After what he calls one of the toughest tournaments of his golfing career, Darcy earned one of 30 cards to play on the 2023/24 ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia just last week at Qualifying School.

“I think Danni was probably a little more nervous than me because she knew our position. It probably didn’t really sink in until one of my mates messaged me and said, ‘See you at the Aussie Open’.”

For Darcy, playing at the Australian Open has been a lifelong dream, and it’s also a dream Danni now holds too.

Vasquez played her first Australian Open last year with Darcy cheering her on from the sidelines, but what she’d love even more is for him to be on the course competing as well.

“He’s definitely a hard worker, and I look up to him for that. I almost cried when I saw him holding the flag when he got his tour card, so it was pretty amazing,” Danni said.

They still can’t believe they’re both now tour players and are excited for their next adventure, which will see them tour Queensland for three months in a campervan competing in any tournament they can.
