New South Wales’ Dana Byrne has claimed the 2022 Women’s Champion of Club Champions title by an impressive eight shots.
Thirty-four women from across NSW have challenged themselves in the 36 hole one-day stroke event held on Monday at Manly Golf Club.
In the morning’s opening round, Maddie Woodley from North Ryde and Dana Byrne from NSW both returned impressive two-over-par scores of 76.
ACT junior representative & Gold Creek Champ Claire Brooker was lurking just three shots back after a solid 79. A handful of others, including Helen Haynes (Cromer), Abbigail Grimish (Kooindah Waters) and Srixon Mid Amateur Champion Stacie MacDonald (Merewether), were another shot back on 80.
With the breeze picking up and the greens firming, scoring in the afternoon became much harder. Not for Byrne, however, who posted a brilliant one under par round of 73 to go along with her opening 76.
Byrne’s total of 149 was more than enough to claim the 2021 Women’s Champion of Champions. Morning round co-leader, Maddie Woodley, held on to claim the runner-up spot after carding a second round of 81 for a 157 total, while Stacie MacDonald (80, 82) finished in third place with a total of 162.
“The course was perfect and I really enjoyed the day with my playing partners.”
“Can’t wait to be back here again next year,” smiled Byrne.
Ironically, Byrne was one of four women in the field who were dual Club Champions playing in this year’s event. She won the Club Championship at New South Wales and was crowned Club Champion at Twin Creeks.
