Inverell’s Brett Drewitt has hung on in the final regular-season event on the Korn Ferry Tour to secure the 24th card on offer and book his return to the PGA Tour for 2022.
After starting the season’s final event in 22nd place on the Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Points List, Drewitt was well aware he needed to make the cut to have any chance of ensuring his place in the all-important top 25 the end of the Pinnacle Bank Championship in Nebraska.
After an opening round of 73, the Inverell native’s chances looked like they had nose-dived, but a stirring second-round four-under-par 67 was enough for him to book his place for the weekend.
Despite back to back two over par 74’s on the weekend, Drewitt had enough of a buffer on his pursuers to ensure his place in the top 25 was secure.
It will be Drewitt’s second time to the PGA Tour since first gaining status in 2017, where he made nine cuts in 19 starts.
Six Aussies teed it up in the final event of the Korn Ferry Tour with mixed results.
Cronulla’s Jamie Arnold carded rounds of 67,73,66 and 72 to finish at six-under-par, enough for a tie for 21st. Western Australian Curtis Luck finished at one under, while Drewitt, clearly with other things on his mind, finished tied for 63rd.
Avondale’s Harrison Endycott and Victorians Ryan Ruffels and Brett Coletta all missed the cut.
