COVID uncertainty scuttles events for 2021

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 crisis gripping the State has forced the cancellation of a number of events from the 2021 Championship Calendar.

With the current Public Health Order severely limiting the ability of competitors to travel even moderate distances, as well as the stipulation of no more than two players per group likely to be in effect for some time, Golf NSW has made the difficult decision to cancel the following events for 2021.

  • TL Warren and W Gibson Shields
  • Women’s Country Meeting
  • Women’s Pewter Plate
  • Women’s Coronation Medal
  • Women’s Bronze Medallion

Golf NSW Events Manager Olivia Wilson said the restrictions brought about by the current crisis left the organisation with no alternative.

“With travel severely limited across the Greater Sydney Area (GSA) as well as regional competitors being unable to enter, there was no alternative but to abandon the tournaments.

“In addition, with groups limited to just two for the foreseeable future, and many affiliated clubs restricting access to members only, sourcing alternative tee-times had become extremely dificult,” Ms Wilson said.

A decision on the completion of the Master Pennant Competition, which has reached the knockout stage but remains postponed, will be made in due course.
