#NSWAm: Capacity field set for Central Coast

An almost capacity field of almost 250 players will tee off in the 2021 NSW Amateur Championship which gets underway on Monday at Magenta Shores Golf & Country Club and Kooindah Waters Golf Club.

Despite the severe limitations on international and interstate travel due to COVID, the field size and depth is pleasing according to General Manager of Golf, Golf NSW Mr Graeme Phillipson.

“Around 120 golfers on scratch or better will be out there next week,” Mr Phillipson said. ” Despite COVID, the depth of talent is still there, and it will be fascinating to see who claims the crowns at the end of the week.”

With international borders shut, the 2020 Men’s NSW Amateur Champion Benjamin Schmidt of England cannot return to defend his crown. There are, however, more than a few locals keen to take out the 123-year-old championship.

Freshly minted Vic Amateur Champion Harrison Crowe will be one of the players to watch, so too his state counterpart Harry Bolton.

Former Japanese Tour Regular, current NSW Mid-Am Champion and the 1999 NSW Amateur Champion, Chris Campbell is another with a chance, as are the dual NSW Junior Champions Jeffrey Guan and Joshuaa Robards.

The Central Coast’s Jordie Garner (St. Michael’s) will relish the chance for a ‘home game’, while another player to watch will be Newcastle-based Jye Pickin (Avondale) who has returned home from college in the United States.
