Monash Country Club’s Jacqui Morgan has added more silverware to her growing trophy cabinet after she took out the New Zealand Senior Women’s Championship at Taupo Golf Club.
Morgan was in dominant form, claiming both the Challenge Cup for her performance in the match play section, and the Curtis Cup for the Stroke Play Championship.
Morgan’s win made it four wins in the past five years for the Aussies in this event.
Morgan won the final against local Diana Syer (Wairakei). Leading three up after nine holes, Morgan did have a couple of wobbles on the back nine but held on to take out the match on the 17th.
Morgan’s run to the final included wins over her fellow countrymen, Carmen Palframan (Lake Karrinyup) and Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) before accounting for Brigit Holford (Royal Auckland Grange) in the semi-final.
Shelly Beach’s Kim Bukr e picked up the consolation pate after being knocked out by Syer in the opening round of the matchplay.
Not content with just the singles crowns to her name, Morgan also captained the Australian Senior Women’s team to a comfortable 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 win over the Kiwis in the Trans Tasman Cup.
The two-day contest was a keenly fought affair; however, the Aussie women were always going to prove hard to beat.
The Aussie team is a formidable one and besides Morgan included Sue Wooster, Helen Pascoe, Kim Burke, Carmen Palframan and Sharon Dawson.
This was the second running of the Trans-Tasman Cup, with the next contest slated to coincide with the 2022 Australian Senior Women’s Championship.
