Conran on song in the Concord Cup

Pymble’s James Conran is the opening day leader of the 54 hole Concord Cup.

Conran, who hails from Orange in the central west, fired rounds of 72 and 66 to lead by a shot from St. Michael’s Harrison Crowe after the gruelling 36 hole opening day.

Conran got his campaign off to a quiet start in the morning but stormed home in the afternoon with a 66, which included an impressive seven birdies and only two bogies.

The round was bettered, however, by his state teammate Crowe, who, after opening with a morning 74, fired a course record 65 on the brand new Tom Doak redesigned layout to vault into second place.

A total of 73 players teed it up in the 54-hole event, with 39 players making the cut for tomorrow’s final round. It is the first time the Cup has received official World Amateur Golf Ranking status.
