Small steps to start as Coonamble gets a go

It’s a small step on a long road, but Coonamble Golf Club is beginning its journey back to health.

With most of its members working on the land and facing a relentless drought, the Club has fallen on hard times due to rising business costs and insurance premiums.

After reaching out to the NSW Golf Foundation last month, the club has received a lifeline in the form of a grant to replace its inefficient clubhouse lighting with a more sustainable LED system, saving them around $4000 a year in energy costs alone.

In addition, the Golf NSW Club Support Team, Graeme Christian (Operations) and Martyn Black (Agronomy), have also visited and are now assisting the Club’s committee to improve it’s business operations.

The Club’s President, Moe Jacobs said like many small regional centres, Coonamble Golf Club is an integral part of the community fabric and vital to the health of the town.

“Our little club is almost 100 years old, and we are struggling, so we were looking for ways to save some money to ensure our longevity,”

“We try and give back as much we can, but due to the struggles of the Club and the drought, we are very short of people that can give time or money,”

“Having this assistance is going to help us to avoid the costs associated with energy now,” Mr Jacobs said.
