Eleven Candidates from across the State have been announced as finalists in the Golf NSW Volunteer of the Year category in the NSW Golf Industry Awards.
The finalists are:
Kay Wallace – Catalina Country Club.
Kay has been an extremely dedicated club member and volunteer for many years and has assisted training countless staff in operational aspects including competitions and managing many of the club’s major tournaments.
Steven Murray – Tallwoods Country Club.
Steve has spent countless hours arranging working bees and on-course helping green staff with the sole purpose of getting Tallwoods back to what it was.
Barry Duncan – West Wyalong Golf Club.
Barry has been instrumental in increasing the club’s membership base in the small ( population 3000) town significantly. He organises the golfing calendar and drives participation in the club’s competitions. A PDHPE Teacher at West Wyalong, Barry is a passionate advocate for the sport at all levels.
Arnie Gould – Monash Country Club.
Arnie is Synonymous with developing the club’s outstanding junior program and has dedicated over 24 years to its growth. Having just turned 80, Arnie is still involved in junior golf around the club. 2017 Australian Open Champion Cameron Davis and Golf NSW representative Nathan Barbieri are only two of the golfers whose Arnie’s involvement has touched over these years.
Michael Lamaro – Shelly Beach Golf Club.
Michael has followed the lead of his father Tony, who dedicated many years to the sport. Michael has been a leader in Junior golf development at Shelly Beach and through the Jack Newton Junior Golf events in the district.
Bob Boschman – Bathurst Golf Club.
Bob has been a dedicated member of Bathurst golf club since joining ing in the 1970’s These days he is a regular helper around the course, often there two to three times a week taking care of the small tasks like edges and hedge trimming. He was the catalyst for the formation of the club’s Wednesday Warriors working bee.
Trevor Jay – The Coast Golf Club.
Trevor has been the club’s ‘Jack of all Trades’ a director, honorary Secretary, Junior Development board, bus driver, team manager, golf day organiser, pretty well everything around the club for almost 450 years. He is the team leader of ‘The Coast Locusts’ the weekly volunteer working bee.
Wayne Geddes – Concord Golf Club.
Wayne has been a member of Concord since 1979 and has been heavily involved in the clubs success in Men’s and Women’s Pennant and Eric Apperly shield fo many years. He often caddies and has not missed a match in over 30 years.
Graham Brooks – Binnaway District Golf Club.
A club Captain and committeeman for many years, Graham assists with work around the course, and even volunteer s behind the bar. He runs the golf competitions most weekends and is a committed raffle organiser.
Sam Whitehouse – Easts Leisure and Golf Club.
Sam has dedicated himself to the club for over 15 years, dedicating up to 20 hours each week to tasks including course beautification, general maintenance and maintaining gardens. He is handy with a paintbrush and ready to do the necessary jobs, not just the glamorous ones.
Sue Paul – Jamberoo Golf Club.
Sue has been involved with the Jamberoo Golf LCub board for many years and is a tireless advocate for the club on tourism committees in the south coast area.
More recently she was a major driver behind the three key areas of prosperity for the club, namely the introduction of FootGolf, the Tomra return-and-ear scheme and assisting the club in securing a liquor licence.
Stuart Fraser, CEO of Golf NSW said the four outstanding nominees represent the values of sport in ways that too often goes unnoticed.”The work of our wonderful volunteers is often unsung.
“They all deserve our acknowledgement for their selfless contribution to our great game,” Mr Fraser said.


The winner of the Volunteer of the Year will be announced at the NSW Golf Industry Awards night on Monday, 21 October, at Curzon Hall, Marsfield.
