Harvison Bags Second Snr Open Start

NSW Snr Open Newcastle Qualifiers

Grafton gun Greg Harvison has qualified for his second Lincoln Place NSW Senior Open after claiming a one shot win at Newcastle Golf Club.

in second place was Warren Gorton who finished with a 78 to take the other Snr Open start on offer.

It was Harvison’s second crack at qualifying this year after some bad luck at Bonville back in July left him agonisingly close to sealing his spot.

“I played poorly in the first round in Bonville, and I played quite well in the second round, but I just missed out on a top-two finish,” Harvison told the Grafton Examiner.

Harvison was one of 80 competitors at Newcastle and was one of only two to qualify.

“That was my goal from the start, to see if I could qualify again. I qualified last year at Nambucca Heads with a top-two finish.”

“I started with double-bogey, but I brought it back with four to play, and I was just good enough in the end to finish first,” he said.

“It was tough. It was the toughest course I’ve played in 10 years.

The Grafton golfer is hoping to progress further in this year’s Open after narrowly missing the cut last year against some strong opposition.

“That was an experience and a half, I’ve never played in that high-calibre a golf tournament,” he said.

Harvison now has a couple of months to get ready for the tournament, which begins on October 25.

“It’s all about preparing for me now.

“it’s about doing the little things better and trying to strike a bit of form,” he said.
