Doey Choi has suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of Victorian Gabi Ruffels in the final of the North & South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst Golf Resort this morning (AEST).
In a high-quality affair, the Victorian took the match, two-up, sealing the deal with a birdie on the last.
In an indication of how close the contest was, the lead in the match was never more than two holes either way.
Choi had got out to a two-hole lead after six holes. However, a couple of rolling storms played their part, forcing a delay to proceedings.
Ruffels made her move on the resumption, winning the 7th, 8th and ninth in quick succession to grab a one-hole lead.
Choi responded by claiming the 11th to square the match again, but it wasn’t long before Ruffels made her mark. A birdie on the 14th was all the Victorian needed to get her nose in front, and she maintained the lead to the last.
