Michelle Bang of Marsden High is leading the girls’ division of the NSW CHSSA Championships after round two, with Kayun Mudadana of Lucas Height Community High School and Jamie Smith of the Australian Christian College sharing the top spot in the boys.

Bang shot a two-over-par round of 71 today, bringing her 36-hole total score to one over.

“Today I missed so many putts, but I was hitting it pretty well,” she said.

“Yesterday the putting was a bit better, hopefully, I can putt better at the coast tomorrow.”

With the third round taking place at The Coast Golf Club tomorrow, Bang is optimistic that the change of scenery will benefit her game.

“My goal is to sink more putts and play under par.”

With only the top six girls earning a spot on the NSW Schools Team, Bang is hopeful she can make it once again.

“If I make the team this year, that will make it three years in a row for me, so, I’d be pretty happy.”

In second place is Endeavour High student Camilla Kim at five over, followed by fellow Endeavour student Rachel Lee and Cammeraygal High School’s Michelle Yang in a tie for third at plus seven.

Mimi Thomsen from St. Mary’s Star of the Sea College in Wollongong is in equal fifth place.

Thomsen commented on her performance: “I didn’t play too bad, I had two over. I was fairly happy with my finish; I holed a forty-footer for birdie. I left a few shots out there but overall, I’m happy with my game.

“I’m in the top ten and I’m fairly happy with the way I’m sitting. I’ve got two more rounds to get something done, so hopefully, I play better at the coast since it’s more like my home course of Wollongong.”

“One of my goals this year is to make the state team with my siblings, that would make it even better. But even just to make it, I would be very happy.”

Today also marked a milestone for siblings Mimi and Aksel Thomsen, as they played together in a tournament for the first time.

Older brother Aksel Thomsen, an Edmund Rice College student, is currently sitting Tied 9th at six over.

“It was good playing with Mimi. I had her covered all day, and then the last two holes we had two two-shot swings and she got me by one. So that was a bit frustrating but I was happy for her,” laughed Aksel.

In the boys gross, Kayun. Mudadana shot a tidy one over 70 today to go wiht hopening 69, while Smith carded a two over 71, leaving hte pari locked at one over par. Lachlan Lawson of St Francis Xavier College and Riley Millers of the Australian Christian College are tied for third with a two rond total of +2.

A highlight of the day was Maclean High School student Tana Lowe’s hole-in-one on the par-three 13th. “I got out my four hybrid as it’s what I used yesterday, and I hit it and thought it went right in the bunker. It hit the top of the bunker, it went over and everyone else could see it. It was rolling towards the hole but I couldn’t see it because I’m too short. But yeah, it went in, it was great,” she recounted.

Round three will be an 8 AM shotgun start at The Coast Golf Club tomorrow.
