“I’m feeling pretty good. I played pretty well, very steady,” he said.

“I was eight under through 11 so I was looking for something real low and a few things didn’t go my way, but I finished with six under for today so I’m happy.”

This victory marks Smith’s first win at the NSW CHSSA Champs, having previously placed third. He is now one of sixteen boys advancing to the fourth round tomorrow.

“I’m feeling good. I like windy golf. I’m hitting the ball really well and it’s nice and wide here for me so I’ll just give the driver a whack.”

The top six boys and two reserves after tomorrow will form the NSW School Team. Smith, who has never been part of the team before, admitted his primary goal was to win the Championship.

“It would be good (to make the team), I think it clashes with a few other things that I’m up to, but we’ll see how we go,” he added.

“I just wanted to win the championship. Tick a few more boxes before the NSW Junior Championship and the Junior HP and elite squad go off to Vic Junior AM in four days. So, I’ll try and bring the good golf there.”

Riley Millers, also from Australian Christian College, secured second place with a total score of two under par. Darcy Mackay of St. Dominic’s College and Kayun Mudadana of Lucas Heights Community School shared third place, each scoring two over par.

In the girls’ division, Michelle Bang triumphed with a phenomenal nine-shot lead, finishing with a final score of four under after today’s third round.

“I’m feeling good. I played well today. I was hitting lots of fairways, didn’t miss many greens and putted pretty well so I’m happy,” she said.

“I’ve come second the last two years in a row so I’m happy to win finally.”

Bang aims to make the NSW School team for her third year in a row.

“I’m feeling confident. Hopefully, I can play under par again tomorrow and stay at the top.”

Ann Jang of Endeavour Sports High secured second place with a total score of three over, while Lara Thomsen from St. Marys Star of the Sea College and Michelle Yang from Cammeraygal High School shared third place, each scoring six over.

The top sixteen boys and girls will play a final round at The Coast Golf Club from 7 am tomorrow for the NSW All Schools Selection Trials.

Those who make the team will head to Royal Canberra in the ACT in August to compete at the School Sport Australia Championship.
