To produce players capable of being ranked in the Top 100 on the Professional
World Rankings, Winning Major Championships and Olympic Golf Medals.
To use the success of our high performance athletes on the world stage to achieve
the following for the sport of golf in NSW/Australia.
To identify talented male and female amateur golfers from across the state and provide
them with a “value add” elite development program with the aim to produce
“Tour Ready” Professionals that ultimately achieve the HPP Vision
The criteria outlined below is used as a guide to select candidates for inclusion in the HPP. Although these are a general in nature, they are set out by Golf NSW in consultation with Golf Australia. The final decision on selection of successful candidates rests with the Golf NSW High Performance Committee and in consultation with The Golf NSW High Performance Manager and program support personel.
The following criteria will be utilised for program selection:
Golf Australia Rookie’s comprises of male and female professionals selected by Golf Australia. A rookie squad member includes any player in the final six months of their amateur career until the end of their fifth year of professional golf.
These players are categorised as elite amateurs competing at an international level that are a likely to be transitioning to professional within 12-18 months. A WAGR of 200 or better trending towards the top 50 would be indicative of players at this tier.
Note – on most occassions players at this level will have been elevated from within Tier 3 due to their WAGR ranking, tournament results and a sustained demonstration of dedication and commitment to their “off course” preparation and fulfilling their potential to the highest level while in the HPP.
These players are categorised as developing elite amateurs competing at the national level with some notable results and are showing the potential to reach Tier 2. A WAGR inside approx. 1,500 trending towards 500 would be indicative of players at this tier.
These players are categorised as emerging amateurs (elite juniors) aged approx 15-18 years old that have been identified as having the potential to reach higher levels of the pathway.

Golf NSW believes in the importance of education in a player’s development and as such stipulate that
those selected have met or are the process of meeting a minimum level of education to be involved in the program. For those of school age, ideally this minimum is that they are currently enrolled at Secondary School until they receive the Higher School Certificate.
Golf NSW also recognises that there are alternative educational opportunities available to those that are of school age and are not currently enrolled at a NSW High School undertaking the requirements to attain the HSC .
These people are still eligible to apply to for the Golf NSW HPP but will be required to have enrolled and be undertaking a formally recognised education or training course (e.g. TAFE) at least until that point in time that they would have graduated year 12.
Golf NSW also believes in the continued development of oneself beyond high school via “off-course” activities such as continuing education or employment while pursuing their golfing goals. As such those that are selected into the HPP are encouraged to either seek ongoing education and/or work part-time while they are in the Golf NSW HPP. Please note- Golf Australia currently has the selection requirement to be in the process of or have completed your High School Certificate to be eligible for selection into State HP Programs in OneGolf states, Australian Teams, Rookie Program, or to receive any funding or development support.
For more info on GA selection criteria please refer to the Golf Australia website.
Note – players aged under 17 need to meet the NSW Government Department of Education requirements in relation to leaving school. These requirements can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/practical-help-for-parents-and-carers/quick-guide-for-parents.html
