Northbridge Golf Club offers visitors something different every time.
Tucked at the end of Sailors Bay Road just a few minutes drive from the North Sydney CBD, Northbridge boasts some of the best views of the city and nearby Middle Harbour.
The par 64 layout is tight in places and hugs the bush and sandstone escarpment of the harbour. Cut on a relatively hilly piece of land; you don’t notice most of the elevation changes until the end of the round.
Measuring just over 4400 metres, there are quite a few risk/reward holes and a few reachable par fours at Northbridge. Beware though, the fairways are relatively narrow and will punish an errant drive.
The opening holes at Northbridge are all relatively new. Designed by James Wilcher, they are challenging with water and Out-of-Bounds significant factors.
Some of the other highlights at Northbridge Golf Club include:
- The 5th: A par three, the club’s famous cliff hole places a premium on accuracy. Playing from the back tees is daunting.
- The 10th: One of the more interesting holes on the course. A dogleg right, the smart play is an iron from the tee then try to use the slope to get it close.
- The 11th is the hardest hole on the course and is a 230m massively downhill par 3 (from the tips), with water on the left. Par is a great score.
- The 18th: a solid par four. Downhill from the tee, but uphill with OB on the right for slicers.
Northbridge Golf club prides itself on it’s motto “The friendliest golf club in Sydney’. Players can relax in the welcoming and informal clubhouse after a round.
Competitions for visitors are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while social golf is available seven days a week. The Club also offers FootGolf daily after 3pm.
If you are feeling hungry, Northbridge Golf Club’s food offerings are also some of the best north of the Harbour. Harbourview Dining is extremely popular with both locals and golfers.
