The Graham Papworth-designed Lynwood Country Club is is one of the youngest golf clubs in the greater Sydney area.
Opened in 2009 and located about 50km north-west of the CBD, the 18-hole par 72 links style course set on on 230 mostly flat, low-lying land.
Lynwood takes its name from historic Lynwood House, a colonial-style home built around 1814, perched on one of the highest points on the property.
The course takes advantage of several natural features, including wetlands and plenty of native rough areas. Most of the course is visible from the club’s colonial-style veranda, which also offers panoramic views of the Distant Blue Mountains.
Test
At first glance, the Lynwood Country Club layout appears deceptively simple with generous fairways and easily identified landing areas. Direction and position as opposed to distance, however, is the key to a good score.
A chain of ponds and creeks meanders through the course and come into play more often than you realise. Throw in more than a few strategically placed bunkers and you have more of a challenge on your hands than first appeared.
Highlights include:
- The 7th: Tee shot is critical. Stay right of the fairway bunker and you will be rewarded with a second shot to a relatively wide-open green.
- The 12th: Wetlands run the full length the left hand side of the fairway, with a brace of bunkers down the right. Get a long straight tee shot away and you will face the option of a second shot over a small creek to a green which runs from left to right.
For those keen on a pre-round warm-up, Lynwood boosts a magnificent two-tiered grass driving range, practice green and short game area.
Lynwood Country Club is open every day from 6:00am to dusk. The driving range is open every day from 6:00am to 9:30pm. The first tee off time available all year round is 6.30am with the last tee off time dependant on the season. Please enquire at the Pro-Shop on (02) 4580 2800.
