Gibraltar Country Club, formerly known as Bowral Country Club, is 70 years old and part of a proud history of golf in the NSW Southern Highlands.
At 5054 metres, the par 69 course isn’t terribly long, however, Gibraltar is one of the more interesting layouts around.
The course has more than a few elevation changes. No hole is entirely flat; requiring accuracy off the tee and the ability to shape shots. Manage your game and you will score well.
The course offers plenty of panoramic views over the township of Bowral, and especially from the 4th and 13th tees.
While on stunning views, Gibraltar Country Club’s signature hole, the 5th, also offers a glimpse or two of the club’s mountainous namesake, Mt Gibraltar.
Natural features on the front nine include Cherry Tree Hill which golfers navigate their way around on the front nine, and which blends into the course design.
The black nine tracks over some reasonably undulating ground, and there is also a series of small hazards to traverse. While slightly longer than the outward nine, driver is often not required as accuracy from the tee is paramount. The bigger hitters the sport have to wait until the 18th to really be able to unleash.
For those looking for more than a day away, the highly regarded Gibraltar Hotel Bowral is adjacent, and overlooks the 10th hole.
Gibraltar Country Club often offers specials over the summer months and include Twilight Golf. Aqua Golf functions are also available by arrangement by booking after 6:00pm.
