Belmont Golf Club, near Newcastle, is an 18-hole par 72 Championship course on the Pacific Highway, about two hours north of Sydney and 30 minutes from Newcastle.
Always in meticulous condition, Belmont is a genuine seaside links challenge. Fairways are generous and the greens are well protected by bunkers.
Water hazards also dot the course, so taking the right line from the tee is essential.
The two nines at Belmont Golf Club do have their contrasts. The front nine weaves its way southwest before turning towards the ocean and back towards the clubhouse.
The back nine meanders along the eastern edge of the course offering vistas over nearby Nine Mile Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Some of the views are sensational.
Holes of note at Belmont include:
- The 14th: A long par four with 180 degree views of the beach and Swansea Headlands.
- The 16th: Recently added to the course following the addition of a couple of bowling greens, the short par three has an undulating green and is well guarded by spinifex.
For many years Belmont Golf Club was the home of the renowned Lake Macquarie International Amateur. More recently it has hosted the NSW Boys and Girls Junior Amateur Championships.
With several open competitions midweek, visitors are welcome. Contact the Pro Shop for tee times.
