Get into Golf?
Golf is a game for all, men and women, young and old.
It’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle as we age by getting plenty of gentle exercise, watching our diet and keeping our mind active. Playing 18 holes a couple of times a week provides an ideal amount of exercise for our hearts as we grow older. It helps us retain muscle tone and stay fit.
Golf is not only good for our body but it’s good for our mental health. It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends, meet new people, and keep a sense of community in our lives.
Getting some sun and fresh air in a natural environment helps to reduce stress too.
The Program
Across NSW a number of golf clubs are taking part in the Get into Golf – for Seniors program that has been developed by Golf NSW and supported by the PGA and ALPG.
The program was developed to provide opportunities for seniors who may never have played golf to get involved with the game, to make new friends, to learn basic skills and stay fit and healthy
A six week course (1 hour per day, 1 day per week), it is targeted at individuals over 55 years of age that may never have played golf and would like to give it a try, or for those that played many years ago and would like to be involved again. The cost to participants is just $99 and includes all the equipment and instruction you need to enjoy the game of golf.
Program format:
- Six teaching sessions
- 75 minutes per session:
- Teaching of 3 different skills x 20 minutes per skill
- Socialising and feedback time x 15 minutes with tea and coffee·Includes time on the course in the last weeks of the program, accompanied by club members
In the last two weeks of the program, participants will get to venture out onto the golf course to play some holes with their instructor and some members of the club.
All programs are delivered by a PGA Professional (and supported by the PGA & ALPG). If a club does not have its own PGA professional Golf NSW can work with the PGA to try and find one for you
