St Michael’s, Pymble set to decide Apperly final

St Michael’s and Pymble Golf Clubs will meet to decide the winner of the 2019 Eric Apperly Shield following wins over the ACT Monaro and Concord.

The ACT/Monaro, who were looking to make their second Eric Apperly final in three years, got off to a bright start against the strong St Michaels team with wins to David Howard and Nicholas Pullen.

St Michael’s squared the ledger pretty quickly however, courtesy of a couple of big wins from NSW representative Harrison Crowe, and team mate Wielang Wang.

Crowe took care of Riley Wilcox 7&6, while Wang was barely troubled by Adam Harris, winning 5&4.

Aiden Powter grabbed a one-hole win, while Jamie Krzyszczak ensured a sudden-death playoff wasn’t going to be needed with a handy win on the 20th hole.

Pymble survived a nail-biter against the defending champions, Concord, with a sudden-death playoff required to split the teams.

James Conran was the man of the moment, but he needed six holes to get the result over Josh Gadd after the teams finished level on three matches apiece.

Earlier, Conran had managed to get the better of Gadd, winning 3&2. Other winners for Pymble were Lachlan Chamberlain over Lachie Jones, 2&1, and Ned Waddington over Bradley Wills on the 19th hole.

Concord’s wins came from Blake Phillips 3&1 over Redi Brown, Blade Gadd, 5&4 over Jack Abadee, and Harry Peterson 4&3 over Joseph Coles.

The two teams will now meet in the shield final which will be played this Sunday, at Riverside Oaks Golf Resort (Bungool Course), beginning at 10.30am.
